If By Whiskey is a project made up of a small town kid from Niceville, Florida and his friends. Aaron Overton, the lead singer/songwriter, now living in LA, writes songs that unfold in highs and lows, truth and abstraction, love and divorce, and the bittersweet feelings in between. In addition to making If By Whiskey’s album and single covers and lyric videos, Kevin also plays bass and keys on some tracks.
“Far Known Place”
This is a song about the world inching closer to danger, and how it so often can feel there is nothing to be done. It's about the power of ignorance. And it's about the "far known place" where people go to avoid empathy for one another
“Higher Planes”
Higher Planes is about the ways in which we remember things and the things we convince ourselves of, true or not. It’s about how often two people can talk past each other, each taking a different understanding from the same experience, and each keeping a memory that can be flawed.
“Hell Has a Garden with Angels”
This is a psychedelic folk song about how sometimes hope is found in the most unexpected places. It reflects on the biblical story of Samson, how he allowed his own personal feelings interfere with his mission, and how even after that, he became powerful enough to bring down the pillars. This song is about those kinds of stories.
“Amorous You”
Amorous You is about how we fight with our inner selves and demons. It’s about our struggles against our own better judgment, and, when we choose to do things we shouldn’t, how that inner voice can then haunt us.
“Cracks in the Sunlight”
This is a lo-fi rock song with an intimate approach, focusing on the scars that those close to us can leave with us. The verses are the “small talk” we make to try to paper over our pain and struggles, and the chorus literally “opens up” and bleeds out the truth.
“Think I Wanna Be a Dog Now”
Walking the line between a carefree daydream and meandering melancholy, “Think I Wanna Be a Dog” is a song about longing and not knowing where you fit. This song gives voice to that inner question: why is it that I’m not enough and that I need to change? It’s also just about how chill being a dog would be.
“GOSI”
This song explores how fleeting and ephemeral so much of life is through the story of a relationship.
Gus n’ Al
Gus n’ Al is a pseudo-country comedy duo comprised of Kevin (Al, short for Alexander, his middle name) and his childhood best friend William (Gus, short for Gustave, his middle name). They write all of their songs together, most of which satirize country music tropes and southern culture, and Kevin animates their music videos.
“Too Drunk to Sh*t”
Gus n’ Al began with this song, written entirely in 20 minutes to tease a friend for one particularly embarrassing night.
“American Jesus”
This tune critiques southern evangelical christianity’s roots in radical political ideology.
Marvel Deleted Scenes
Kevin began experimenting with an auto—rotoscoping program called Ebsynth by animating short “deleted scenes” from Marvel Studios films. Disney, if you’re seeing this, he is available for script doctoring.
Spider-Man Deleted Scene
Spider-Man collaborates with local law enforcement in this exclusive deleted scene from a Spider-Man feature film.
Avengers: Infinity War Deleted Scene
A tense moment between Thanos and Star Lord, cut for time.
Avengers: Endgame Deleted Scene
